Tongues were programmed to "cease of
themselves" (1 Corinthians 13:8).

"Love never ends. As for prophecies,
they will pass away; as for tongues,
they will CEASE; as for knowledge, it
will pass away." (1 Corinthians 13:8,
ESV, emphasis mine)

The middle voice of "cease" indicates
that nothing had to act on tongues to
make them cease. They had a built-in
limit. Now that the purpose for tongues
has ceased (see below), tongues have ceased.

By contrast, prophecy and knowledge are
said to be made to cease (passive
voice), by the arrival of that which is
perfect (1 Corinthians 13:10).

"But when the perfect comes, the partial
will pass away." (1 Corinthians 13:10, ESV)

"That which is perfect" may refer to the
maturity of the church. It fits the
context (1 Corinthians 13:11-12), and it
means that Paul will see as others see
him, not as one who looks in a blurry
bronze mirror at himself.

"For now we see in a mirror dimly, but
then face to face. Now I know in part;
then I shall know fully, even as I have
been fully known. When I was a child, I
spoke like a child, I thought like a
child, I reasoned like a child. When I
became a man, I gave up childish ways."
(1 Corinthians 13:11-12, ESV)

These verses explain that the gifts of
prophecy and knowledge would be made to
cease by the arrival of "that which is
perfect," which may refer to the
maturity of the church and potentially
the completion of the canon of
Scripture. Just as Paul describes
leaving behind childish things upon
reaching maturity, the partial gifts
would no longer be necessary once the
church reached full maturity, when full
understanding would replace partial
knowledge.

The purpose of sign gifts and tongues
has ceased.

a) Jesus' healings and other miracles
served the purpose of validating His
ministry as coming from God, and of
fulfilling the Old Testament Scriptures
that predicted the Messiah would heal
the sick, etc. For example, Jesus used
these miracles to bolster the faith of
John the Baptist, by confirming that He
was indeed the prophesied Messiah:

“And when John had heard in prison about
the works of Christ, he sent two of his
disciples and said to Him, “Are You the
Coming One, or do we look for another?”
Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and
tell John the things which you hear and
see: The blind see and the lame walk;
the lepers are cleansed and the deaf
hear; the dead are raised up and the
poor have the gospel preached to them.
And blessed is he who is not offended
because of Me.”” (Matthew 11:2–6, NKJV)
This is an allusion to Isaiah 35:5:

“Then the eyes of the blind shall be
opened, And the ears of the deaf shall
be unstopped. Then the lame shall leap
like a deer, And the tongue of the dumb
sing. For waters shall burst forth in
the wilderness, And streams in the
desert.” (Isaiah 35:5–6, NKJV)

Thus, Jesus confirmed to John and
everyone else that He was the prophesied
Messiah, through signs and wonders like
healing the sick, etc. The real healing
Jesus offers people today, is spiritual
healing. He raises them from the dead
spiritually, gives them spiritual sight,
and gives them spiritual life and
wellness (Ephesians 2:1-2, etc.).

b) Regarding tongues, the purpose of
tongues, as described in both the Old
and New Testaments, was a sign directed
primarily to the people of Israel. In
the Old Testament, Isaiah prophesied
that foreign languages would serve as a
judgment upon Israel for their unbelief
and disobedience. Isaiah writes, "By
people of strange lips and with a
foreign tongue the Lord will speak to
this people, to whom he has said, 'This
is rest; give rest to the weary; and
this is repose'; yet they would not
hear" (Isaiah 28:11-12, ESV). Here, God
warns Israel that because of their
rejection of His message, they would
hear it through the tongues of
foreigners, symbolizing judgment and the
presence of unbelief.

In the New Testament, Paul reinforces
this understanding of tongues in 1
Corinthians 14:21-22, where he directly
references Isaiah 28, saying, "In the
Law it is written, 'By people of strange
tongues and by the lips of foreigners
will I speak to this people, and even
then they will not listen to me, says
the Lord.' Thus tongues are a sign not
for believers but for unbelievers, while
prophecy is a sign not for unbelievers
but for believers" (1 Corinthians
14:21-22, ESV). Paul confirms that the
primary purpose of tongues was to be a
sign for unbelieving Israel, showing
that the miraculous gift was not
primarily for the edification of the
church but a specific testimony to
Israel's rejection of God's message.

Despite this supernatural witness,
Israel as a nation rejected the
testimony of the apostles, just as the
Scriptures foretold (Romans 10:19;
Deuteronomy 32:21). This rejection
marked the fulfillment of God’s
prophetic warning and underscored the
cessation of tongues as a sign gift,
having served its divinely appointed
purpose.

Have you heard the good news Christ died
for our sins (†), and God raised Him
from the dead?

That Christ died for our sins shows
we're sinners who deserve the death
penalty. That God raised Him from the
dead shows Christ's death satisfied
God's righteous demands against our sin
(Romans 3:25; 1 John 2:1-2). This means
God can now remain just, while forgiving
you of your sins, and saving you from
eternal damnation.

On the basis of Christ's death and
resurrection for our sins, call on
the name of the Lord to save you:
"For "everyone who calls on the name
of the Lord will be saved."" (Romans
10:13, ESV)

"Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for

Well, CringeRose needs to chuck his knowledge out his horse and cart
also then. :-). You see how he focuses in his sin state on what he wants
to be truth and ignores the other?

John, I haven't got a horse in these endless arguments between these two
sinner "I am scripture truthers," but let's have a little look.

Firstly, simply, if QuipRose wants it his way, then he better toss
knowledge out the door with tongues. :-).

But let's look at the Amplified Bible rendering...

1Co 13:8 Love never fails [never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes
to an end]. As for prophecy (the gift of interpreting the divine will
and purpose), it will be fulfilled and pass away; as for tongues, they
will be destroyed and cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away [it
will lose its value and be superseded by truth].

"Lose its value and be superseded by truth."

Superseded by the Spirit of Truth. See it?

The apostle's, the 'cleansed of all unrighteousness' state of being...

2 Cor 3:3  Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of
Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of
the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.

1 Thessalonians 2:13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing,
because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye
received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of
God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

The receiving God's voice speaking into their hearts, into their daily
lives.

You see, the bible (the written word) is superseded by the Spirit
indwelling. If you still need a bible, you are not born again because
you need ***eternal*** instruction, indoctrination, teaching, and
reproof (2 Tim 3:16).

1Co 13:9  For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
1Co 13:10  But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in
part shall be done away.

When the Lord comes and indwells, you have that which is perfect; you
have all you need.

The Lord Jesus died for our sin, but that is not all. He came to indwell
the believer in Him so that they would become the Word.

Still an unbeliever (by God's standard): need the bible—not born again.

A whole-heart believer (the only kind): no bible needed—born again,
because he is indwelt by the Spirit of God.

This is horrific to them because everything depends on their independent
bible religion of self-determination. That is why they mock me and speak
evil and lie about me, calling me a 'sinless self-based' person and a
bible tosser.

Once you have a true relationship with the Lord, you need nothing
else—not a bible, not a book written by a man, not a teacher, not a
preacher, not a priest, not a mentor—for fulness is found and is only
found in the Lord.

Now read it and see...

Col 2:9  For ***in him*** dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
Col 2:10  And ***ye are complete in him,*** which is the head of all
principality and power:

 ...see it.

This is Gods emphasis, not yours.

You are a false teacher, you make things up even when the scripture is in
front of you. All these things are contingent on the perfect one being here.
Where is He? Who is He?

You can spew out a lot of scripture, but the problem is, your lack of
knowledge and Love. Therefore you are as a sounding gong.

You preach a far, far different Gospel, For Jesus said these things were for
ALL who believed on Him. He prayed to that end. Why do you disregard the Word
of God for you own sake?

Only then will they cease from the promises of God. They will cease now, for

disbelief will kill the actions of Gods love for you. So why do you insist on
your way over that of God, why your “gospel” message and not that of

him, not as one who looks in a blurry
bronze mirror at himself.
"For now we see in a mirror dimly, but
then face to face. Now I know in part;
then I shall know fully, even as I have
been fully known. When I was a child, I
spoke like a child, I thought like a
child, I reasoned like a child. When I
became a man, I gave up childish ways."
(1 Corinthians 13:11-12, ESV)
These verses explain that the gifts of
prophecy and knowledge would be made to
cease by the arrival of "that which is
perfect," which may refer to the
maturity of the church and potentially
the completion of the canon of
Scripture. Just as Paul describes
leaving behind childish things upon
reaching maturity, the partial gifts
would no longer be necessary once the
church reached full maturity, when full
understanding would replace partial
knowledge.
The purpose of sign gifts and tongues
has ceased.
a) Jesus' healings and other miracles
served the purpose of validating His
ministry as coming from God, and of
fulfilling the Old Testament Scriptures
that predicted the Messiah would heal
the sick, etc. For example, Jesus used
these miracles to bolster the faith of
John the Baptist, by confirming that He
“And when John had heard in prison about
the works of Christ, he sent two of his
disciples and said to Him, “Are You the
Coming One, or do we look for another?”
Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and
tell John the things which you hear and
see: The blind see and the lame walk;
the lepers are cleansed and the deaf
hear; the dead are raised up and the
poor have the gospel preached to them.
And blessed is he who is not offended
because of Me.”” (Matthew 11:2–6, NKJV)
“Then the eyes of the blind shall be
opened, And the ears of the deaf shall
be unstopped. Then the lame shall leap
like a deer, And the tongue of the dumb
sing. For waters shall burst forth in
the wilderness, And streams in the
desert.” (Isaiah 35:5–6, NKJV)
Thus, Jesus confirmed to John and
everyone else that He was the prophesied
Messiah, through signs and wonders like
healing the sick, etc. The real healing
Jesus offers people today, is spiritual
healing. He raises them from the dead
spiritually, gives them spiritual sight,
and gives them spiritual life and
wellness (Ephesians 2:1-2, etc.).
b) Regarding tongues, the purpose of
tongues, as described in both the Old
and New Testaments, was a sign directed
primarily to the people of Israel. In
the Old Testament, Isaiah prophesied
that foreign languages would serve as a
judgment upon Israel for their unbelief
and disobedience. Isaiah writes, "By
people of strange lips and with a
foreign tongue the Lord will speak to
this people, to whom he has said, 'This
is rest; give rest to the weary; and
this is repose'; yet they would not
hear" (Isaiah 28:11-12, ESV). Here, God
warns Israel that because of their
rejection of His message, they would
hear it through the tongues of
foreigners, symbolizing judgment and the
presence of unbelief.
In the New Testament, Paul reinforces
this understanding of tongues in 1
Corinthians 14:21-22, where he directly
references Isaiah 28, saying, "In the
Law it is written, 'By people of strange
tongues and by the lips of foreigners
will I speak to this people, and even
then they will not listen to me, says
the Lord.' Thus tongues are a sign not
for believers but for unbelievers, while
prophecy is a sign not for unbelievers
but for believers" (1 Corinthians
14:21-22, ESV). Paul confirms that the
primary purpose of tongues was to be a
sign for unbelieving Israel, showing
that the miraculous gift was not
primarily for the edification of the
church but a specific testimony to
Israel's rejection of God's message.
Despite this supernatural witness,
Israel as a nation rejected the
testimony of the apostles, just as the
Scriptures foretold (Romans 10:19;
Deuteronomy 32:21). This rejection
marked the fulfillment of God’s
prophetic warning and underscored the
cessation of tongues as a sign gift,
having served its divinely appointed
purpose.
